A recent journal article gave information on people needing rabies vaccinations after monkey bites who were seen in one clinic in France. Interestingly numbers bitten by monkeys increased between 2001 and 2014 and most of the bites had occurred in Asia, particularly Thailand or Indonesia. Most bites in Thailand were on Monkey Beach on Koh Phi Phi Island and in the Lopburi Monkey Temple while those in Indonesia were often at the Ubud Monkey Forest in Bali. It is safer not to visit these locations but if you are
do not feed the monkeys, avoid smiling at them (showing teeth is a sign of aggression) and avoid showing fear.
