 Frequently Asked Questions
  • When should I have my appointment?
It is never too early to see Joan and some vaccination series take a month or more to complete. At least a month before departure is good but  it is never too late to get advice and vaccinations.
  • What should I bring to the appointment?
It is helpful if you know your itinerary, your current medications and what travel vaccinations you  have had previously as well as when your last tetanus booster was.
  • What happens at an appointment?
Joan and you will decide which vaccinations you are going to  have then she will usually give them to  you . Next Joan will  discuss all the other health issues relevant to  your trip  and provide you with prescriptions you need (eg malaria prevention tablets.) If you need more than one dose of a vaccine eg rabies you will require another visit but only pay the cost of the vaccines at subsequent visits not another consultation charge.
  • How many doses of vaccines do you need ?
Some vaccinations need more than one dose. Rabies usually requires 3 injections. The second one is a week after the first and the third between 21 and 28 days after the first.  The 2 doses of Japanese encephalitis vaccine are usually given 28 days apart but the interval can be shortened.
